WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT?

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
Let me begin with this: your life moves in the direction of your thoughts. Proverbs 23:7 says that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. This means that your life is a direct reflection of your thoughts. If you check your life, and you don’t like the results you have, you don’t like what you are seeing, then go back and ask yourself, “What am I thinking about?” Even when things seem hopeless, do you think to yourself that there’s no possible way out, or do you remain hopeful, thinking, “this too shall pass”; because it is what you think that will manifest.
That is why Paul admonished in today’s text to think upon things that are pure, lovely, and of good report. As believers, we must divorce ourselves from negative thinking. Jesus, at some point in Ministry, was faced with a humanly impossible task – to feed 5,000 people, in the middle of nowhere. Put yourself in His shoes, what would you have done? Cry? Complain? But not Jesus, because He already knew what He was going to do (John 6:6) – He had the right mindset. Rather than think lack, Jesus thought and saw abundance, so He was able to give thanks for the 5 loaves and 2 fishes they brought to Him. Beloved, what you think upon influences what you see, and what you see, influences what you experience.
Right thinking will always produce right living; it’s not the other way around. You are of God, and you should think like God. Take time out to think; not on any random thought that comes into your head, but purposefully. If you want to have a better life, fix your thinking. Throughout today and beyond, be conscious of your thought life, so that your results can be better.
