STAND FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

“For the which cause I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.” 2 Timothy 1:12 (KJV)

The believer in Christ has God’s DNA in him. It is, therefore, an aberration to be ashamed because God was never ashamed. From the beginning of the scriptures, He proved Himself to be a God who is not ashamed. God is not apologetic! He is not moved by anything and is willing to stand alone. To be unashamed means that you are ready to stand alone if need be.

According to Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth…” God is not ashamed to tell you who He is. In other words, don’t ask Him where He came from. It is either you take it or leave it. From everlasting to everlasting, He is God. He cannot be hired, and He cannot be fired. Before you came, He was here, and He will still be there when you are gone. If you are apologising for your faith, imitating the world or allowing the world to define you, then I wonder who gave birth to you.

The Bible is plastered with accounts of people who stood for what they believed. Joseph refused to compromise his faith despite all the harassment of Potiphar’s wife. He said: How can I do this evil thing against God and my master? They threw him into jail, yet he stood for God. His dream was threatened, yet he stood because he was connected to the Almighty God.

Once Moses had the encounter, he was no more afraid of Pharaoh, the greatest ruler of his time. He returned to him and said to him, let my people go. They threatened him, yet he kept going back to Pharaoh. He was unwilling to let a shoelace be left in Egypt. Their men, women, children and resources would serve God. Stand for what you believe.
