REST IN THE COVERING AND PROVISIONS OF GOD
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

“And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.” Genesis 2:8 (KJV)

God created the vegetable kingdom, animal kingdom, and mineral kingdom. He put everything in place. He made man in His image and likeness and gave man dominion over what He had created. Up until this point, man had nothing to do with it. There was nothing man contributed to the creation process. It was all God’s doing!

And God blessed them! What had they done to be blessed? Nothing! He said, be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, subdue the earth, have dominion. They never did anything, they were not qualified, never worked for it; they were just to receive.

That is the position the devil doesn’t want you to stay in. The devil does not want you to rest and receive; rather, he wants you always to be agitated and struggle. In essence, the devil was saying to man it can’t be true; after all, you didn’t contribute anything for it to be authentic. You need to contribute something.

When man was deceived, he reached out and started to put his hands in what God had completed. Whereas all that was required was for him to receive the finished works. The devil got the man into a position where he wanted him. A position where you believe that you must be qualified for you to receive anything.

From then on, the ‘doing mechanism’ was wired into the fallen man. They quickly searched for leaves and covered themselves up. But originally, they were covered by the glory of God. Everything that God created, he covered by Himself. When they disobeyed God, God’s glory departed from them. So, they had to do something to cover themselves. That has been the mindset of man: What can I do? But notice that with all their doing, they could not be covered. God had to cover them with the skin of an animal. Genesis 3:21 (KJV). God reached out and covered them. In other words, there is nothing you can do by yourself. If God does not cover you, you can’t be covered.
