“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you…” James 4:8a (KJV)
Today, I want to further buttress quality time because it is the foundation for a strong relationship. Thank God for all the other languages, but Quality time is the bedrock. When you spend time with someone, you get to know them better and that is what will give you insight into their language and know how best to relate with them.
But beyond quality time with your spouse and children, of utmost importance is quality time with God. Learn to hang around God. Thank God for the books we read, the seminars we attend, and the sermons we hear but none can take the place of fellowship with God. In the place of fellowship, deep calls unto deep. You receive direction from God, and what others struggle to do, you achieve without stress because you are riding on the wings of grace.
In quality time with God, what do you do? First and foremost, worship. Worship is a powerful spiritual force that you cannot trade for anything. In the place of worship, you see God in the beauty of His holiness and every other thing falls at His feet. In quality time, you study the word. Thy word have I hid in my heart, the Psalmist said, that I might not sin against you. The word of God is so powerful that it will put food on your table, clothes on your back, and shelter over your head. As you know, whatever the word cannot give you: 1. You don’t need it, and 2. It does not exist. Also in His presence when you talk to Him in prayer – prayer is two ways: you speak and He speaks to you. So, in your quality time, have a notebook around you to write down the things you hear in the place of prayer. Don’t cheat yourself by thinking you will remember, the faintest pencil is better than the sharpest memory, write down the instructions you receive from Him.
Beloved, God is our first love, and no man can profess true love who has not had an encounter with Him who is Love. So, find time to spend Quality Time with God, your spouse, and your children, it will make you a better person.
