LIVING IN THE POWER OF THE RESURRECTION LIFE
By Bishop Mike Okonkwo

Sunday 20th April 2025

“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4 KJV)

When you’re born again, you step into resurrection life—the life beyond the Cross. The new creation you become is not just someone who was rescued from the enemy’s hold. No, you’re not just delivered or set free—you are someone entirely new, made superior to the forces of darkness. While the Cross delivered us from sin and Satan, the resurrection takes us further. It brings us into the fullness of the new life in Christ.

This resurrection life means you are no longer just the “delivered” or “redeemed” person. You are a new creation. The Bible makes it clear: when you are in Christ, you are not the same person you were before. You’re a new kind of human being altogether.

The person who has been recreated in Christ isn’t from this world—so the world and all its power can’t control him. Through Christ, he has already overcome the world. In fact, the Bible calls us “more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37). You are indestructible and invincible in Him. And perhaps the most beautiful part is this: God calls us saints.

The sinner was crucified with Christ, buried with Him, and then resurrected as a new creation. This is your true identity in Christ.

A Christian is someone who believes in the resurrection of Jesus and confesses His Lordship. By identifying with the risen Christ, they become a brand-new creation. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 puts it: “…If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”

This is what you need to understand about yourself: you are a new creation. The natural man—before Christ—needed deliverance from the devil. He needed forgiveness for sin. And God gave it through the Cross. Christ’s sacrifice was sufficient for our redemption.

But the new creation is not a product of the Cross alone. The Cross was necessary for salvation, but without the resurrection, we wouldn’t experience the fullness of new life. Without Christ rising from the dead, we would still be forgiven, but trapped in the power of sin.

The resurrection brought us into the new life. It’s what made us the righteousness of God and joint heirs with Christ. It’s the resurrection that made us new. So, glory to God! The resurrection life is yours now. You are no longer the person you once were. You have been raised to live a new life, empowered by the very life of Christ Himself
